The New IPhone, Will it disappoint, Will it Dazzle?

I can almost hear the uhs and ahs at the new iPhone launch, after all, this has been the norm ever since the first iMac was launched by Steve Jobs. It is always the same story year in year out as Apple manages to convince many people that they have made the best iPhone so far. I wonder how many times they will use this line till they find another phrase. After today, the whole internet will be abuzz about the new iPhone and like every other blogger, I thought i should be part of the debate. So what’s so special about the new iPhone that everyone is talking about? It is expected to be a complete overhaul of the iPhone spotting a larger screen size, a quad core processor, a new connector and some other specs. Many rumors have been floated around and the above are the things that can be confirmed will definitely make it to the new iPhone.

With so much riding on the launch of this iPhone, will it disappoint, or will Apple deliver according to everyone’s expectations? The bottom line is that the new iPhone will definitely outsell any other device within its first month, the difference in numbers will start appearing a few months after its launch. I predict a scenario where the iPhone outsells all the other big names in the industry for a few months then all the other players catch up. The times when the iPhone had no proper competition is long gone with android devices coming out in all shapes, sizes and speeds. The new devices have definitely eaten into the iPhone market and for it to remain at the top, the minor improvements in software just wont be able to cut it anymore.

The new iPhone should be able to dazzle everyone to the point that even the Apple critics like me admit that it is indeed, “the best iPhone so far”. The problem is, this is very unlikely, and even Apple knows this (why do you think they are all over the place suing their competitors?). Apple knows there is nothing they can add to the market hardware wise, apart from moving around a few buttons and calling it the best ergonomic design ever. Bottom line, if the new iPhone fails to have that distinguishing feature that will blow everyone away (which it might not have), we might just be witnessing the end of the reign of the iPhone as the largest phone seller in the US.

This brings me to the next question, What can Apple bring to the market that will leave everyone speechless? With the original iPhone, it was a 3.5 inch capacitative touch screen and a lot of marketing (We had other devices with touchscreens only that they were resistive, and their companies did not do enough marketing), the iPhone 4 brought retina display to the masses, what will the next generation iPhone bring that will drive its sells to the roof? I cant find an answer to this question and all i can do is wait like everyone else for the unveiling. A lot of people will be disappointed, a lot more will be deceived and the enlightened few will be saying “I told you so”. A few hours to go and it will be seen whether I will be taking back my words or I will be gloating with pride.
